What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle, non-invasive way to work with the body, using a light touch.

During a session, a therapist will use the sensitivity of their hands to ‘listen’ to the client’s system, identifying patterns of tension or constraint. Most of us have nervous systems which, due to the pressures of modern life, are constantly in a defensive “flight, fight, or freeze” mode, which interferes with our innate ability to rest, rejuvenate, and relate socially to others.

BCST gives each and everyone of us the time and space to quieten our systems, so that we may focus and address the issues that need our attention. Through deep and careful listening, a therapist can respond and be led by the client’s own system, rather than imposing their own pre-conditioned methodology.

BCST is widely practised throughout the world. It is as equally suitable for newborn babies as it is to the elderly, and can be used throughout pregnancy.

How can BCST help you?

Alexander Technique Lessons in Chiswick, West London

BCST is designed to support the body’s innate ability to balance, restore and heal itself. Its holistic approach means that it can help with the extensive range of conditions and challenges that we may be faced with throughout life.

Examples of Areas I work with (this list is not exhaustive):

• Accidents
• Anxiety
• Common infant issues, such as colic, sleep, constipation, feeding difficulties
• Depression
• Digestive issues
• Fertility Issues
• Pain – commonly back, shoulder and neck pain
• Post-operative recovery
• Pregnancy and postnatal issues
• Tinnitus
• Trauma

BCST is not intended as primary healthcare, but to work alongside the relationship you have with your doctor or other healthcare professional.

What happens in a treatment?

An adult treatment will usually last 50 minutes. The initial appointment will include a written case history, where we talk about why you have come and your past medical history. Usually you will lie on your back, fully clothed on the treatment couch. The treatment will generally begin with making light contact at your head, feet or base of the spine. You may find that sometimes the focus of the treatment may be on areas other than where you are experiencing your symptoms. As the session progresses you will often experience an increased sense of relaxation and calm.

There are no set number of sessions. Sometimes people report relief from their symptoms after one or two treatments; sometimes further sessions may be needed over a longer period, which I will discuss and review with you.

Fees

I charge £75 for an adult BCST appointment (50 minutes) and £50 for babies and children (30 minutes).
